Our Approach

At Tesco Bengaluru , we believe in an inclusive culture where everyone can be their best. By building an inclusive culture that supports and encourages colleagues to be themselves and contribute to their fullest potential it will help us unlock the benefits of diversity. Every day our colleagues are doing their best to serve our shoppers a little better and our goal is to continue raising awareness about unconscious bias and other relevant topics that can improve outcomes for our business.  

Colleague centric

We invest in unconscious bias training for all current colleagues at Tesco Bengaluru and most have participated in workshops and interactive learning lessons. We foster an environment of openness and collaboration so we can draw from the diversity, knowledge and experience of our colleagues.  For example, colleagues are invited to help improve the workplace through initiatives that matter for the organisation.  Our hiring practices focus on employing people who reflect the diverse nature of society and we value the contribution made by every colleague, irrespective of age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, race, colour, religion, ethnic origin or political belief. 

Transparent and fair

At offices, we make employment decisions solely on the basis of job-related skills, achievements and performance, using clearly defined and fair criteria. We also try and make sure everyone can work in a way that suits their circumstances – we support flexible working, offering part-time roles and encourage learning and development opportunities where this is possible.  An example is our extended maternity and paternity leave policies that allow women and men to spend more time with their loved ones as they welcome new members to their families. Our colleagues are encouraged to voice our views and concerns through the relevant channels so that we can all work together to make Tesco a great place to work. Periodic engagement surveys and quarterly face to face leadership forums provide colleagues opportunities to share feedback and be involved in our progress.

Celebrating International Women's Day 2017

This year, we aim to bring women and men colleagues together, inspire them with great stories from within our businesses and provide opportunities to engage on topics that matter for their development, initiative and success.

We've also included an engaging programme in our offices with a live radio channel, round table on diversity & inclusion apart from a webinar on the topic. It is an opportunity to share the progress we have made as a business with our diversity council, the progressive policies and efforts to strengthen the support we provide our colleagues.
