220 volunteers make a clean statement with Swacch Bharat Initiative | FB reaches 3900+, gets 230+ Likes and more!

Tesco Bengaluru successfully organised its first cleanliness drive on March 27th, 2015. Conducted in alignment with Government of India’s Swachh Bharat initiative and in partnership with WEPPIA and Whitefield Rising, this community effort saw over 220 colleagues taking up the roads near our office with brooms and passion. From 3 PM to 5 PM, they got together, divided up the work, and cleaned footpaths from around the Whitefield Police Station and Vydehi Hospital areas, as well as pavements on the road perpendicular to the office, which includes roadside eateries.

With their spirited toil, these pavements wore a new spic-and-span look, and passers-by who watched them at work made sure they now dropped their litter in dustbins. Well done to each and every volunteer and a big call out to Clement Jayakumar who spearheaded the initiative from the Community team!

Do check out photos of Tesco Bengaluru’s eco-crusaders in action on Facebook and share it with your friends and colleagues. It was a wonderful instance of the strength and impact of volunteering, with every volunteer doing their bit to create change. Read an insightful blogpost by Aniisu Verghese about this experience, and another by Clement on how we all can be the change we want to see.

This initiative ties back to one of our core community themes – Care4Nature.It is an ongoing campaign that will lead to a concerted effort around World Environment Day, to create awareness and inspire colleagues to cultivate greener habits and participate in ‘green’ events through the year.

You are probably aware that Tesco Bengaluru aims for sustainable means of operating, and towards this, as an organisation we make several efforts – investing in rainwater harvesting, tapping solar energy, reducing our carbon footprint with LED lighting, planting saplings, encouraging carpooling and optimising colleagues’ transportation facilities.
