We are pleased to introduce our first ever leather ball cricket tournament, Tesco Premier League for colleagues. It is a T20 cricket format like the Indian Premier League where there will be team owners, funding, selection, auction of players, awards and a lot more. To gear up for the main tournament, our selection trials for 200+ players took place in front of team owners. Here are some glimpses from the selections.
Run for Fun
Healthy colleagues are happy colleagues. We often hold events for our colleagues to stay fit and healthy while having fun at the same time. Recently, our event “Run For Fun” on December 7 had colleagues participating wholeheartedly. From sprints to marathons, we had a wide range of activities that kept everyone engaged. Dr. Sumit Mitra, CEO - Tesco Business Services & Tesco Bengaluru receives highest bid for Indian School of Business’s ‘Shadow a CEO’ charity initiative
Over 350 students from top B-schools in India such as the Indian School of Business, Indian Institute of Management and Xavier Labour Research Institute bid for over 35 leaders’ time in an innovative ‘Shadow a CEO’ charity fund raiser.
Dr. Mitra received the highest bid. The winner is from the Indian School of Business and he will spend a day at our office on December 7 with Sumit as he goes about his work. Kudos to the organisers for conducting this noble initiative.
The Shadow a CEO is a unique programme organised by Indian School of Business (ISB) as part of Daan Utsav (earlier known as the Joy of Giving Week) to inculcate the habit of giving among the youth of India and provide them with an opportunity to interact up close with the country’s most successful managerial talent. This initiative allows budding managers to spend quality time with top CEOs and contribute to worthy causes.
At Tesco, we invest in our colleagues’ learning and development. Recently, we conducted an organisation-wide Career Fair on December 3 & 4 for our colleagues to get an understanding of ways to get on in the businesses we have. Colleagues got the opportunity to learn more from each function, the work they do, the career paths provided and success stories of people who have moved roles and built their careers. It helped them appreciate the skills needed and the support provided to further their development. Apart from career mentoring, colleagues also got a chance to learn about the cool work, that the teams do at Tesco in Bengaluru – including a VR walkthrough of a store that we developed. Dr. Sumit Mitra spoke at the CII CEO Forum 2018-19
We are delighted to inform you that Dr. Sumit Mitra, CEO – Tesco Business Services & Tesco Bengaluru presented a keynote speach at the Fourth Meeting of the CII CEO Forum 2018-19 Karnataka. In the forum, he shared his insights on “Evolution and Future of Shared Services” related to the value business services can add, improve cost efficiencies while maintaining high quality deliverables.

#WeAreTesco Altaf Patel – Senior Head, Business Transformation (Tesco Business Services) shared his insights at the NASSCOM Roadshow on August 31. The event focused on Intelligent Digital Workforce and how it can help create a digital enterprise by automating processes across multiple technology systems, freeing up colleagues to do more value-added deliverables while providing deeper analytics into critical business operations. Altaf covered the best practices in Tesco Business Services’ Robotics Process Automation (RPA) journey and approaches we are taking to reimagine value creation, operational excellence and shareholder value.
Parents as Partners
What makes parents the proudest? When they know their children are doing well in life! That’s what many of our colleagues’ parents experienced at the first ever Parents as Partners event held at Tesco Bengaluru today. At the event, parents were informed of our practices, policies, work environment and investments we are making for the welfare of colleagues. They heard first-hand about our initiatives to make our workplace safer and better. We also had a colleague compose a song for parents. A sumptuous lunch followed the briefing. Our guests were taken on a campus tour showcasing our sports pitch, retail lab, on-site store, child care centre and library among other spaces. Our leadership team connected and engaged parents. Here is what a parent expressed at the event - “I feel super proud to see where my daughter works and to know more about the culture of the organisation. Foundation Day 2018
#WeAreTesco We had a fantastic Foundation Day 2018. At the event, we launched our vision 2020, held business sessions, straight talking with our entire leadership team, talent showcase by our colleagues and a sumptuous lunch. The event also witnessed our annual rewards and recognition wherein our colleagues and teams were recognised for all the good work done through the year. The event ended with DJ Aqeel making our colleagues put on their dancing shoes. We believe, nothing can beat a team that sets its sights higher to serve Tesco shoppers a little better every day
International Women's Day 2018
International Women’s Day (IWD) an annual event at Tesco Bengaluru is around the corner – a global day that recognises social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. There is a strong call to #PressForProgress and at Tesco in Bengaluru our event is called ‘Know No Limits”.
Through a series of events exclusive to our colleagues we are offering them an opportunity to engage, build connections and be inspired to push boundaries and smash limits. IWD celebrations will start with:

Great Indian Developer Summit 2018
Proud to be a platinum partner at Great Indian Developer Summit 2018, the biggest summit for software developers in Asia. More than 4000 delegates attended the event focused on technology knowledge sharing and learning. At the event, our technology leaders addressed 1200+ tech enthusiasts and spoke on Cognitive Serverless Architecture, Multi-Cloud Journey & Auto Classification of Products Using Machine Leaning among others. Partner Connect 2016
Tesco Bengaluru met its valued partner community on October 5th, through ‘Partner Connect 2016’. The goal of this event was to share our progress, learn from each other, and nurture our relationship. Since we began operations at Bengaluru in 2004, our journey and growth have been built on the strong foundations with our partners; we cherish these relationships and look forward to growing them further. Tesco Technology Day 2016
Tesco Bengaluru hosted its second edition of Technology Day - Ignite 2016 to recognise the importance of improving customers’ shopping experience through technology. The keynote speakers for the day included industry experts Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and Ganesh Krishnamurthy, serial entrepreneur. Also present at the event was renowned cricketer Javagal Srinath. This year, the event saw a turnout of over 1000 Tesco Bengaluru colleagues. The day entailed key note addresses and panel discussions focusing on how technology is fundamental to redesign and reimagine the future of retail. Tesco’s purpose, strategy, structure, and culture were highlighted to reinforce alignment with evolving customer behaviour. The day culminated with a rewards and recognition session for Tesco Bengaluru colleagues. Nandan Nilekani, during his key note address emphasised how technology is no longer ancillary today. “Technology done properly by reimagining businesses is the single biggest driver of change,” he added. He further stressed how setting ambitious goals and believing in a common vision would drive organisations to create changes that make a difference. The event concluded with felicitating winners of the recently held Hackathon that was conducted as a lead up to the Technology Day. The Hackathon which attracted more than 190 participants this year demonstrated Tesco Bengaluru’s commitment to encouraging creativity and innovation among its colleagues. The winners exhibited their models on enhanced shopping experiences, virtual reality retail games, and personalised advertisements at the event.
Product Roadshow 2018
Our technology team recently organised a Product roadshow for colleagues at Tesco Bengaluru. At the event, colleagues had the opportunity to understand how great products are conceived, conceptualised, developed and delivered. The roadshow also led to insightful conversations between colleagues and product managers.
Foundation Day 2017
Foundation Day 2017 witnessed a celebration of the entire Tesco Bengaluru family and what a way to renew our commitment to our customers, colleagues, partners and communities we serve. A lot happened in one day - from journey boards talking about the how we have renewed our ways of working to interactive games, from inaugurating our very own store on campus to engaging exhibition stalls, from external performances to a talent showcase led by our colleagues and not to forget a sumptuous lunch! What made the celebration complete was how we celebrated our journey and successes as One Team.
Annual Tesco Labs India Hackathon
The 5th annual Tesco Labs India Hackathon 2016 organised by the Tesco Labs team at Bengaluru on 22-23 September witnessed a record number of registrations.We also received the highest number of women participants till date. The Hackathon themed ‘Revolutionalising Retail’, was the biggest edition with 180 participants from Tesco colleagues forming 43 teams. After 24 hours of hacking, the teams their ideas to a panel of judgesfrom Tesco India and UK. A guest speaker Rashmi Mohan shared her views on building an ‘innovation mindset’. The winning teams pitched a variety of ideas, from promoting products to gaming and enabling multi-channel personalised advertising campaigns, which impressed both the audience and the judges! The winners were:

- (1st Place) Team: Brogrammers
The organisers were also delighted to present a People’s Choice Award, which went to team ‘Prodigies’.
Glen Attewell - CEO, Tesco Bengaluru participates at ‘UK in Karnataka’ Event
Our CEO – Glen Attewell recently attended and spoke at a British Deputy High Commission organised Whitefield PopUp event.
Dominic McAllister, the British Deputy High Commissioner at Bengaluru hosted this programme which involved the Whitefield community comprising major UK companies such as Tesco as well as Indian companies who are investors in the UK.
At the event Glen spoke about Tesco’s experience as a UK investor and the local support we receive. He expressed his positive experience with working with people in the country and how much he had personally learnt from the interactions. He also thanked the community for their support and commitment to investors and partners like us.
Tesco Bengaluru at Grace Hopper Celebration 2016 as Bronze Sponsor
Tesco Bengaluru participated at the Grace Hopper Conference India (GHCI) as a Bronze sponsor from December 7th – 9th, 2016. The conference is India’s largest gathering for women technologists.
The three day conference focused on the research and career interests of women in computing and technology. GHCI 2016 also included presentations, panel discussions, leadership speaker sessions, professional development workshops, career fair, a Hands on Lab, networking opportunities and much more.
At a management track session, Abraham Cherian, Head – People, Tesco Technology talked about ‘Managing Millennials’. Abraham joined a panel with experts from organisations like LinkedIn and SAP to talk about ‘New Age Technologies’ and how important it is for companies to keep innovating and introducing new ways of working.
Tesco Bengaluru also put up a career booth, where our technology hiring team received an excellent response from potential talent and working professionals. The ‘crossbot’ at the booth was a great attraction and generated immense interest among visitors. At the Hands on Labs – our colleagues showcased a mobile application based on augmented reality and an application to personalise advertisements on hoardings at public spaces.
We also hosted a special lunch for select candidates to talk about our journey, work culture, growth opportunities and nature of technology work which we do.
Children's Day Celebration at Tesco Bengaluru
As part of our ‘Bring Your Family to Work’ initiative, we celebrated Children’s Day on our campus on November 18th with a host of engaging activities and events.
More than 240 colleagues brought their children and family to Tesco Bengaluru and participated in 26 fun and engaging activities such as a puppet show, rock climbing, pottery making and tattoo art.
Stalls for cotton candy, popcorn and helium balloons adding to the carnival like atmosphere. Wearing colourful Tesco’s ‘Little Champ’ caps children enjoyed themselves as they played and explored our new work floors.Time spent with my son on a Friday in office was precious.
