Foundation Day 2017
Foundation Day 2017 witnessed a celebration of the entire Tesco Bengaluru family and what a way to renew our commitment to our customers, colleagues, partners and communities we serve. A lot happened in one day - from journey boards talking about the how we have renewed our ways of working to interactive games, from inaugurating our very own store on campus to engaging exhibition stalls, from external performances to a talent showcase led by our colleagues and not to forget a sumptuous lunch! What made the celebration complete was how we celebrated our journey and successes as One Team.
Children's Day Celebration at Tesco Bengaluru
As part of our ‘Bring Your Family to Work’ initiative, we celebrated Children’s Day on our campus on November 18th with a host of engaging activities and events.
More than 240 colleagues brought their children and family to Tesco Bengaluru and participated in 26 fun and engaging activities such as a puppet show, rock climbing, pottery making and tattoo art.
Stalls for cotton candy, popcorn and helium balloons adding to the carnival like atmosphere. Wearing colourful Tesco’s ‘Little Champ’ caps children enjoyed themselves as they played and explored our new work floors.Time spent with my son on a Friday in office was precious. Tesco Bengaluru at UnPlugged 2016
Tesco Bengaluru participated as an Exhibition Partner of UnPluggd, India's biggest and most insightful startup & technology conference on November 25 and 26. We engaged visitors at our stall sharing insights and practices on how we serve our shoppers a little better every day.
People Leader's Summit 2016
Krity Sharma, Head – People, Tesco Bengaluru was a panelist at the People Leader’s Summit 2016, organised by Dun & Bradstreet to discuss policies, interventions and best practices. As part of the panel, Krity shared insights on managing people in a VUCA World (Volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity), talent acquisition & management and managing cross-cultural issues in today’s dynamic world.
Partner Connect 2016
Tesco Bengaluru met its valued partner community on October 5th, through ‘Partner Connect 2016’. The goal of this event was to share our progress, learn from each other, and nurture our relationship. Since we began operations at Bengaluru in 2004, our journey and growth have been built on the strong foundations with our partners; we cherish these relationships and look forward to growing them further. Tesco Technology Day 2016
Tesco Bengaluru hosted its second edition of Technology Day - Ignite 2016 to recognise the importance of improving customers’ shopping experience through technology. The keynote speakers for the day included industry experts Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and Ganesh Krishnamurthy, serial entrepreneur. Also present at the event was renowned cricketer Javagal Srinath. This year, the event saw a turnout of over 1000 Tesco Bengaluru colleagues. The day entailed key note addresses and panel discussions focusing on how technology is fundamental to redesign and reimagine the future of retail. Tesco’s purpose, strategy, structure, and culture were highlighted to reinforce alignment with evolving customer behaviour. The day culminated with a rewards and recognition session for Tesco Bengaluru colleagues. Nandan Nilekani, during his key note address emphasised how technology is no longer ancillary today. “Technology done properly by reimagining businesses is the single biggest driver of change,” he added. He further stressed how setting ambitious goals and believing in a common vision would drive organisations to create changes that make a difference. The event concluded with felicitating winners of the recently held Hackathon that was conducted as a lead up to the Technology Day. The Hackathon which attracted more than 190 participants this year demonstrated Tesco Bengaluru’s commitment to encouraging creativity and innovation among its colleagues. The winners exhibited their models on enhanced shopping experiences, virtual reality retail games, and personalised advertisements at the event.
Annual Tesco Labs India Hackathon
The 5th annual Tesco Labs India Hackathon 2016 organised by the Tesco Labs team at Bengaluru on 22-23 September witnessed a record number of registrations.We also received the highest number of women participants till date. The Hackathon themed ‘Revolutionalising Retail’, was the biggest edition with 180 participants from Tesco colleagues forming 43 teams. After 24 hours of hacking, the teams their ideas to a panel of judgesfrom Tesco India and UK. A guest speaker Rashmi Mohan shared her views on building an ‘innovation mindset’. The winning teams pitched a variety of ideas, from promoting products to gaming and enabling multi-channel personalised advertising campaigns, which impressed both the audience and the judges! The winners were:

- (2nd Place) Team: Know Your Customer (KYC)
- (1st Place) Team: Brogrammers
The organisers were also delighted to present a People’s Choice Award, which went to team ‘Prodigies’.
Glen Attewell - CEO, Tesco Bengaluru participates at ‘UK in Karnataka’ Event
Our CEO – Glen Attewell recently attended and spoke at a British Deputy High Commission organised Whitefield PopUp event.
Dominic McAllister, the British Deputy High Commissioner at Bengaluru hosted this programme which involved the Whitefield community comprising major UK companies such as Tesco as well as Indian companies who are investors in the UK.
At the event Glen spoke about Tesco’s experience as a UK investor and the local support we receive. He expressed his positive experience with working with people in the country and how much he had personally learnt from the interactions. He also thanked the community for their support and commitment to investors and partners like us.
Tesco Bengaluru at Grace Hopper Celebration 2016 as Broze Sponsor
Tesco Bengaluru participated at the Grace Hopper Conference India (GHCI) as a Bronze sponsor from December 7th – 9th, 2016. The conference is India’s largest gathering for women technologists.
The three day conference focused on the research and career interests of women in computing and technology. GHCI 2016 also included presentations, panel discussions, leadership speaker sessions, professional development workshops, career fair, a Hands on Lab, networking opportunities and much more.
At a management track session, Abraham Cherian, Head – People, Tesco Technology talked about ‘Managing Millennials’. Abraham joined a panel with experts from organisations like LinkedIn and SAP to talk about ‘New Age Technologies’ and how important it is for companies to keep innovating and introducing new ways of working.
Tesco Bengaluru also put up a career booth, where our technology hiring team received an excellent response from potential talent and working professionals. The ‘crossbot’ at the booth was a great attraction and generated immense interest among visitors. At the Hands on Labs – our colleagues showcased a mobile application based on augmented reality and an application to personalise advertisements on hoardings at public spaces.
We also hosted a special lunch for select candidates to talk about our journey, work culture, growth opportunities and nature of technology work which we do.
